Crate to Plate
Crate to Plate was founded with the mission of bringing sustainable, local production of leafy greens to urban communities. As part of the regeneration project at Elephant & Castle, two of Crate to Plate’s farms have been placed on-site here at Elephant Park which will yield over five tonnes of fresh produce per year including lettuce, rocket, kale, basil, parsley, coriander, mint and more! All these greens will be grown within the storage containers and will be harvested to deliver to the local community as well as the cafes and restaurants in the area!
Crate To Plate farmers carefully control the environment inside the farms. By using the latest technology and eco-friendly innovation, their meticulously monitored vertical farms ensure that greens can be grown locally in urban environments, all year round, using minimal water, with zero carbon footprint in transporting from farm to customer.
Hydroponic technology is the method Crate to Plate use to allow them to control the farming conditions. It is a method of growing plants without soil and instead using the mineral nutrient solutions in water.
Crate to Plate can also grow their greens vertically, maximising the use of available space compared to traditional farming methods. Each 40ft container can achieve the same production as over an acre of farmland, using 95% less water!
Their lettuce is perfect for a tasty vibrant salad, maintains great flavour and is highly nutritious. A delicious and distinctive taste can also be found in Crate to Plate’s leafy greens, also perfect for a salad or for blending into a juice. Additionally, you can purchase their range of herbs which are all super fresh and bursting with aroma. Perfect to boost the richness of flavour in your cooking, herbal tea or cocktails!
