Located on London Road, this Latin American restaurant, wine bar and bodega has become something of a culinary hotspot in the area serving a wide array of dishes to awaken your appetite.
Paladar translates as ‘palate’ and the Southwark restaurant should tempt yours thanks to a menu bursting with sharing dishes from Colombia, Ecuador, Cuba, Mexico and Peru.
The popular restaurant was established as a result of a trip to Latin America in 2013 by founder Charles Tyler. The local food and high-quality wines and spirits he sampled during his visit left a lasting impression on him, and the seed for Paladar was sown.
Fast-forward six years and Paladar is a slick South London restaurant run by an experienced team who know their Latin American cuisine. Paladar boasts a collection of five-star Trip Advisor reviews where diners rave about the empanadas filled with slow-cooked beef brisket and the tuna tartare and quinoa tian with taro crisps and chipotle mayo. Paladar sommelier Rafael Cabezas-Castro is on hand to recommend the perfect big red or refreshing white to accompany the big flavours on offer.
During the summer months, diners can make the most of the restaurant’s courtyard and dine al fresco. Although the climate of Latin America isn’t guaranteed, a friendly welcome and a hearty serving of South American comfort food definitely is.
And if you fancy taking a little piece of Paladar home with you, be sure to pay a visit to the restaurant’s ‘bodega’ where you can pick up a bottle featured on the impressive wine list to enjoy at home.
Paladar is at 4/5 London Road, London SE1 6JZ. For more information or to make a reservation, visit the Paladar London website.
