Elephant Park is fast becoming one of south London’s culinary hotspots and is a must visit for any foodie or coffee-lover. Here we focus on two of the best restaurants Elephant and Castle has to offer..
A contemporary coffee, breakfast and lunch stop by day, a venue for guest chefs, cocktails, natural wines and local beers by night, Louie Louie is well placed among the very best Elephant and Castle restaurants and cafes. Its outside terrace is the perfect place to relax in the warm summer air, as chilled beats play out on the venue’s vintage hi-fi.
This summer, Louie Louie welcomes Le Cordon Bleu-trained Chef Tonoya Barua Chaudhuri as its chef-in-residence. A well-known figure in London’s food scene, Chef Chaudhuri honed her skills and sharpened her knives in the kitchens of the city’s culinary icons such as Bagatelle and Novikov.
Throughout June and July, she will take SE17 diners on an idyllic gastronomic journey around the regions of France. Beginning with Provence, the ever-evolving menu will showcase her contemporary take on classic French bistro standards – an exciting addition to the already impressive roster of Elephant and Castle restaurants.
Did you know that 19th century cattle ranchers of the American frontier were some of the most devoted coffee drinkers ever known?
Bringing a touch of that Old West style to Elephant and Castle is Black Cowboy Coffee, which has now launched its summer menu. From evergreen favourites such as iced coffees, chai lattes and mocha frappés, to their deluxe creations (Lotus Biscoff frappé anyone? Yes please!), they’ll always have something to cool even the warmest cowboy on the ranch. Or the warmest person in the home office – whichever of those best applies to you.
Café owner John Otagburuagu, AKA Black Cowboy, specialises in sourcing quality organic, fair trade coffee beans, but has lots of great breakfast and lunch options on the menu too. He is particularly well known for his outstanding Liege waffles. The Liege style is a little sweeter and chewier than the standard Belgian waffle – and just as delicious.
From its humble beginnings as a coffee and waffle cart in Elephant and Castle Market, Black Cowboy Coffee recently moved into its first permanent brick and mortar premises in Elephant Arcade.
