When pioneering choreographer Siobhan Davies CBE built a dance studio in Elephant and Castle in 2006, it was the fulfilment of a dream.

A dancer and choreographer with the London Contemporary Dance Theatre for 15 years, Davies decided to set up her own company in 1988.

The result was the Siobhan Davies Dance Company, which has evolved from an international touring dance company into a groundbreaking contemporary arts organisation. The company aims to connect artists with audiences through collaborative and interdisciplinary artistic activities.

In 2006, after 10 years of planning, the company celebrated the realisation of a long-cherished ambition: to take up residence in its own purpose-built home. The Siobhan Davies Studios, just four minutes’ walk from Elephant and Castle tube station, was designed by architect Sarah Wigglesworth, and won a prestigious RIBA award.

Today, the studios are a space for exploration, creativity, and above all, dance. It is a place to connect with others and engage in exhibitions, talks, events and classes. Classes, courses, workshops and other events are open to all and no prior dance experience is necessary.

Siobhan Davies Dance holds a Primary School programme which integrates movement and choreography into curriculum learning, supporting children’s attainment and wellbeing.

It also offers competitive studio hire to independent dance artists, offering access to excellent facilities at affordable prices, as well as body-conditioning classes. The building is also open to private hires for events such as weddings and parties. Click here to find out more.

Elephant Park has supported the company through its Elephant and Castle Community Fund.
