A taste of Italy on your doorstep
Visit The Kiosk for freshly brewed coffee. Mercato Metropolitano London bringing Italian delights to Elephant and Castle.
- 25 Nov 2019
The Kiosk, a new Italian pop-up cafe, specialising in premium Italian coffee and traditional food, is now open within Elephant Park.
Created by Mercato Metropolitano (MM), The Kiosk can be found on the corner of Sayer Street and Heygate Street between 7.30am and 6pm every day. In its first three days alone, the new coffee bar sold more than 200 coffees, getting off to a flying start with the locals.
As well as coffee, The Kiosk has a wide range of food options. Breakfast includes freshly made pastries, including croissants, cannoli (sweet ricotta filling) and aragostine (with hazelnut chocolate cream). Lunches include an equally appetising range of salads, sandwiches, arancine and lasagnes.
Mercato Metropolitano was founded in Milan, Italy, in 2015 and is proving to be successful as the city’s sustainable community market.
After the success of Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant & Castle, the MM Factory will be coming to Elephant Park. Opening later this year, on Walworth Square and Sayer Street, The Factory will be the first of its kind, offering the local community a unique and sustainable dining experience, as well as being a supportive social hub centred on a love of food. Find out more about the MM Factory here.
Mercato Metropolitano aims to ‘improve food value chains, strengthen communities and help protect the environment’. It is hoped that MM Factory and The Kiosk will bring an outstanding and diverse workforce from around the world to the Elephant Park community.
Jane Allen, a member of the Elephant Park Estates team that helped bring The Kiosk pop-up to fruition, says: “The coffee and food is fantastic at The Kiosk and we are really excited for people to experience what it has to offer. It’s like having Italy on your doorstep. What’s not to love?"
